HEBREW TATTOOS

HEBREW TATTOOS

   How To Spell Kabbalah
In the last blog, we looked at the use of the Kabbalah in Hebrew Tattoos. As we will see, the Kabbalah is often used in Hebrew   Tattoos, and themes from it appear in the Hebrew Tattoos of some very well-known celebrities!

kaballah tattoo    Kabbalah Hebrew Tattoos
One Hebrew Tattoo theme that is often seen is tattoos that relate to the Kabbalah. Many celebrities have chosen to get Hebrew Tattoos based on the Kabbalah, as we will see in future blogs.
The word Kabbalah comes from the Hebrew root kabal (to receive), and means receiving. Whereas the study of the Tanakh or Hebrew Bible is the religious branch of Judaism, the Kabbalah deals with mystical aspects of Jewish beliefs. The Kabbalah is a set of esoteric teachings that explain the inter-relationships between the individual, the Creator and the   Creation. The Kabbalah uses Jewish thoughts and classic Jewish books such as the  Tanakh to explain the nature of the universe and the human being within it. Kabbalists believe that the Kabbalah explains the inner meaning of Jewish writings such as the  Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and traditional rabbinic writings, and provides deeper insights into the significance of Jewish teaching.
With the popularity of the Kabbalah, themes and ideas from the Kabbalah are sometimes seen in Hebrew Tattoos. Many famous celebrities who are "into" the Kabbalah have got Hebrew Tattoos which reflect ideas from the Kabbalah.
You can see just how widely the field of Hebrew Tattoos stretches - from words and phrases in Modern Hebrew, different Hebrew scripts, the Hebrew Bible, Hebrew names, through to simple Jewish expressions, and so on. The Hebrew language has a very rich tradition, stretching back many thousands of years. If you want a Hebrew Tattoo, you have many centuries full of ideas to choose from! It is a great way to learn Hebrew!

   New Testament Religious Hebrew Tattoo
We have seen two previous religious Hebrew Tattoos from the Tanakh or Hebrew Bible which have very obvious mistakes. These religious Hebrew Tattoos are from Psalm 63 and Isaiah 41. But it is not just the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible where people get bad Hebrew Tattoos from. Bad Hebrew Tattoos also come from people who try to copy Hebrew from the New Testament.
If you compare this Hebrew Tattoo with the correct Hebrew above, you will notice many mistakes. Many of the Hebrew letters are wrong – they have been confused with other Hebrew letters which look fairly similar (at least to beginners). For instance, Bet and Kaf have been mixed up, as have Resh and Heh, and Vav and Final Nun.
Mixing up Hebrew letters in Hebrew Tattoos happens all the time. That's a real pity, because you will have a bad Hebrew Tattoo for the rest of your life. And these Hebrew Tattoo mistakes are easy to avoid. It is much easier if you just spend a little time and learn the Hebrew Alphabet properly. Our page Hebrew Letters That Look Alike explains Hebrew letters that are commonly confused. Learn the differences between those letters, and you will probably avoid nearly all the mistakes that are made again and again in Hebrew Tattoos.
If you like Hebrew enough to get a Hebrew Tattoo, why not make an effort to learn the Hebrew Alphabet? There are only 22 letters. How hard can it be? Take a look at AllThingsHebrew.Com to find out!

CELTIC TATTOO - CELTIC SISTERHOOD SYMBOL

In Celtic designs, sister is often symbolized by a triquetra or a triskele.
Motherhood and sisterhood designs are often interchangeable. They both symbolize a trinity. They both also contain the inevitable "mother, maiden, and crone.
It is not uncommon for women to get various sister and mother symbols.
The following you will see are either ancient symbols or creations of Shane Clark. We hope you enjoy our services in making these designs available to you.
Find the pic with the right meaning for you. Or have a custom one drawn by Shane Clark.
Sisterhood means a close family relationship. To the Celts this close of a relationship is most often associated with a trinity. A trinity included within sisterhood would mean "mother, maiden, crone"... or even 3 sisters and strengths. Many motherhood and sisterhood images are the same. There are some, however, that are not.
   Celtic Art
Celtic art is one of the fastest growing art forms ever. It has been inspired by great designs from ancient Celtic manuscripts like    The Book of Kells. Heritage tattoos offer a body design that can be enjoyed and treasured for life.
Celtic art is recognizable with its color, complex knots, interlacing patterns, animal forms (known as zoomorphism), and various symbols that are known only in the Celtic world. The most popular (of all the Celtic designs) is the Celtic cross. Celtic art is often colored purely in black. Sometimes color is added to brighten the design.
Like tribal art, a Knotwork tattoo communicates a feeling rather than representing a physical object. Knotwork gives them much of their power.

CELTIC TATTOO - TRIQUETRA INTERLACED TRIANGLE CIRCLE
Triquetra Symbols | Meaning of Triquetra

Learn the various meanings of triquetra art.
Triquetra is a Latin word that means "three cornered". Originally, it simply meant "triangle" and used to refer to various three-cornered shapes. In ancient times, the #3 was sacred and revered as an extremely powerful number. Today the symbol is often a more complicated design with a circle that weaves through the three interconnected loops of the Triquetra. The circle emphasizes the unity of the whole combination of the three elements. The symbol is also known as the Trinity Knot.
A widely recognized knot for the past two centuries, the Triquetra has been used as a sign of special things and persons that are threefold, such as Mother, Daughter, and Grandmother - Past, Present and Future - the Trinity of soul, physical, mental and spiritual – and especially the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is uncertain what the symbol truly meant to the ancient Celts.
In Celtic art the Triquetra has three distinct, yet interlocked points and is often found in Insular art, most notably in metalwork and in illuminated manuscripts (e.g. The Book of Kells). The Triquetra rarely stood alone in medieval Celtic art. It was more widely used as space filler or a design element in larger, more complex compositions.
The symbol meaning of the Triquetra typically represents the three stages of the feminine life cycle, the maiden (the young virgin), the mother (pregnancy and motherhood), and the crone (old age and wisdom). It can also represent the threefold of nature, earth, water, and sky or it can represent three fishes ("Pisces"). During the persecution of the Christians, the fish was a valuable and secret symbol. When two people of the Christian faith came together one would draw half the fish in the sand, and if the other drew the other half of the fish symbol in the sand, they knew it was ok to talk. The Circle represents unending love for and from the creator, and unending love for man and woman.
To Modern Pagans, the Triquetra symbolize a variety of concepts and mythological figures. Celtic Redonstructionist Pagans use it either to represent one of the various triplicities in their cosmology and theology (such as the division of the world into the three realms of Land, Sea and Sky), or as a symbol of one of the specific triple Goddesses.
The symbol is sometimes used by Wiccans to symbolize either the Wiccan triple goddess, the interconnected parts of our existence (Mind, Body, and Soul), or other concepts that seem to fit the idea of a unity.
In popular culture, the TV series Charmed identified the symbol to mean "The Power of Three Acting as one". During the first   season, the Triquetra appeared on the cover of the sisters’ Book of Shadows, as well as on their cat. The premise of the show  was that the three sisters must act as one to be truly powerful and effective.
Some believe that Triquetra originated from a Greek word meaning three legged. It is associated with progress and compensation and found on the coat of arms of the Isle of Man.

CELTIC TATTOO - TRIPLE SPIRAL SYMBOL DESIGN
Celtic Triskele Meaning

Learn the various meanings of triskele art.
The triskele or triple spiral is Celtic symbol used by the Druids to represent the sacred number three. The tripartite symbol is composed of three swirling lines that radiate from a common center, and it is an ancient symbol of pre-Celtic and Celtic beliefs. It is probably the most famous Irish megalithic symbol.
The symbol was discovered at the Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange in Ireland, which is believed to have been built about 3200 BC. The passage and chamber of Newgrange become illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. A shaft of sunlight shines through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates the passage to light up the chamber. The alignment is too precise to have occurred by chance. Therefore, the theory is that the symbols carved there have some relation to the sun.
The symbol meaning of the triskele to the pagans who built Newgrange is unknown. Some believe it to be a symbol of fertility. The idea originates from the fact that the sun is spiral in its movements. A triskele, or triple spiral, represents nine months.
"The triple spiral may represent the nine month period of human pregnancy".
Uriel's Machine by Knight and Lomas (2003)
This idea is reinforced by the womb like shape of the structure at Newgrange. The symbol also suggests reincarnation because it is one unbroken line, suggesting a continuous movement of the universe within eternity.
The triskele appears in various forms in pre-Celtic and Celtic art. Later found in the Celtic Christian illuminated manuscripts of insular art, the triple spiral was possibly the precursor to the Celtic triskele design found in Celtic manuscripts. The Celtic Christians have used it to represent the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism, the triskele often stands for the "three realms" - Land, Sea, and Sky. It is also use it for a number of deities who are described in the lore as "threefold" or triadic. In their religion, the triskele is most often the symbol of the god Manannán. Also among their Gods to be symbolized by the triple spiral is too is the goddess Brighid. Many Celtic-inspired  Wiccans also use the triple spiral symbol, most often to represent the concept of the triple goddess.
Triskeles are very popular in Celtic art and the styles vary, especially as they relate to the Mother Goddess. They also evoke the   Celtic concept of the three domains of material existence (earth, water, and sky), and their interrelations.
The Celtic triple spiral is a symbol of the Triple goddess (maiden, mother, crone) also, waxing waning and full moon (in ancient times).
To help clarify the above statements for the Celtic triskele, or triple spiral symbol, the sun takes a quarter (1/4) of a year to go from the celestial equator (an equinox) to the extreme north (or the extreme south) declination (a solstice), and vice versa. During each three-month period, the sun's path across the sky seems to form a closely wound quasi-helical shape. This shape resembles a spiral. The spirals could represent nine months and provide an explanation for a link between fertility and the triple-spiral symbol.
