TEACHING YOUR CHILD WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Give your baby a real headstart at home!
|
 |
Your child with Down syndrome can learn "I Told My Baby with Down Syndrome, 'You will excel--and I will help you.' "But how could I keep that promise on an isolated island in the Pacific?"
...What I've learned can help you teach your child,
(even if you feel like you're alone on an island). |
|
Announcing "Home Is Where the Smart Is!
"How you can give your child with Down syndrome a solid foundation for life-long learning."
This book was made with you in mind.
|
When I started walking life's bumpy road with Deborah, I was overwhelmed. As I said, I knew enough about Down syndrome to make me fearless. That is, I knew enough to think that I understood what I was facing.
I knew nothing.
I went to the Internet. I bought books. I researched as much as I could between homeschooling Deborah's older siblings and taking care of her.
What I read was often discouraging and depressing. One book implied that I absolutely HAD to feel regret, remorse and a host of other negative feelings just because I had a baby with Down syndrome.
Who needs help like that?
I didn't.
And you don't either.
That's why I've made this resource for you.
I want to save you the time and frustration that I've wasted in the last ten years going down the wrong trails.
I want you to give you a head start on your own research into the best programs and materials for your child.
I want you to encourage you as you start down the road with your little one. You CAN help your child reach his full potential. You really can. And he really will.
I want you to know the thrill of seeing your non-verbal toddler identify words with breathtaking accuracy.
"Home is Where the Smart Is" will get you going. Packed in its pages you'll find ways to get your child off to a good start. And if your child is older, you'll find new resources--and some new ideas--to move you along.
Helping a child with Down syndrome can be a difficult task, but just imagine the excitement in your home when your child takes that first step, or says that first word, or reads that first book. You can help make those moments happen. |
What's Inside "Home is Where the Smart Is."
Although "Home is Where the Smart Is" is packed with information in its 104 pages, it is not an exhaustive work. It's a consideration of the basics of teaching your child with Down syndrome, starting from birth through the foundational elementary years. What's inside:
- Why Down syndrome is NOT "mental retardation" ...page 14
- How you really can "treat" Down syndrome. ... page 17
- How you can save frustration and diapers with an old method of potty training ... pg 49
- How you can keep that tongue from sticking out .... page 38, 69
- The fastest way to teach your child to read ... page 60
- Developmental milestones, word lists, websites and resources ... page 90
- And, if you must be involved with the public school system, basic guidelines for Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and 15 snippy questions to ask educators. ... Chapter 7
|
What Can This Information Do For You?
Gathering this information and writing this e-book have taken me months, because I'm just a mom. I did the work as I could, amid the craziness of homeschooling four normal kids and working with Deborah. Quite honestly, I was ready to give up several times, but I knew what I have learned over the years could help you.
I knew it would also give you...
- The basic information you need when your baby is newborn and you don't have time to think or research.
- A reason to reject centuries of stereotypes about Down syndrome.
- Hope for yourself and your child, knowing that PROGRESS is POSSIBLE.
And I knew this information would SAVE you …
- Time - You can drive yourself crazy researching Down syndrome, but never get information that is truly helpful. The information I have collected has been tested in the crucible of real life (in my house!) and has been shown to work under less than optimal conditions.
- Money - You can go broke buying all the books available on Down syndrome. What I've share can help you limit your search for effective materials, so you won't waste money on materials that won't work for your child.
- Energy - When you are blessed with a child with Down syndrome, you soon discover a new level of weariness. "Tired" takes on a whole new meaning as you are drained physically, emotionally and spiritually.
In those early days especially, there's little time to think, even if you had the energy to do so. I've put the energy into the research so you can get the valuable information without the effort.

Why You Should NOT Buy This E-book…
Let me be honest: Any time you buy an ebook you take a risk. While I am confident that the information in "Home is Where the Smart Is" is useful and as accurate as I can offer you at the time of publication, this book may not be for you.
-
Do not buy this e-book if you are looking for ways to teach your teen algebra or high school subjects. This book contains foundational information. It grew out of my experience with my daughter, who is only 10. We're still working on the basics. I can't even think about algebra, a foreign language, health, or composition. (However, if your teen is not yet reading, you will find the information helpful.)
-
Do not buy this ebook if you are going to let it sit on your desktop unread. There's no point in doing that. If there's too much happening in your life that you don't have time to read it now, you don't need the guilt of letting it sit unread. (I can't tell you how many e-books I've bought that I've not read completely, and feel guilty over. I don't want that to happen to you.)
-
Above all, do NOT buy this e-book if you have done all the research and have concluded that Down syndrome equates with mental retardation. We'll both be happier just agreeing to disagree.

Dear Frustrated Teacher,
Here are some of the problems you and every other Frustrated Teacher face right now…
Students who talk to their friends whenever they feel like it.
Students who get up and wander around the room when you are teaching.
Students who shout out answers that have nothing to do with your question.
Students who make abusive comments to each other. Students who are verbally and physically aggressive towards you.
But it’s worse than you think! Here’s why…
Once these behaviors begin they continue to get worse until your administrator walks in and decides that YOU are the problem, not the students, and FIRES you!
Luckily, there is a solution…
Introducing “Classroom Management Made Easy”
In this new ebook you will learn why students behave as they do. You will come to understand how you can simply and easily meet the needs of your students without fighting, bribing or coercing them. Students will be fighting to get INTO your class!
In Fact, Here’s Just The Tip of The Iceberg of What You Will Learn …
How to avoid having to spend half of your pay on stickers and candy to pay students to behave.
How to avoid the frustration of constant interruptions to your lessons.
How to eliminate the headache that is your constant companion on your drive home.
How to make a positive difference in the lives of your students.
How to enjoy every moment working with your students.
Why you will be the teacher others turn to for help solving their classroom discipline problems.
Here’s How and Why We Can Make You This Promise
I’m Wayne Sheldrick and I have worked for over 25 years in the classroom with every type of student that you can imagine. In addition I worked for 4 years in a school designed for students under psychiatric care, students who just couldn’t be controlled in the regular school setting. For more than 20 years I have worked with teachers just like you, helping them to understand their students better and create a positive learning environment in the classroom. It is possible, and you can do it.
When I survey teachers on how much of their time is spent on discipline related issues the answers range from 10% to 50% or more. Who would want to spend 35 years in an environment like this? And yet many teachers do? “Classroom Management Made Easy” will help you reduce discipline time to zero, allowing you to do what your were trained to do … TEACH!
You could continue on with the strategies you are currently using, having success some days and frustrations others. Or you could order “Classroom Management Made Easy” today and begin to change your teaching life forever.
So Here’s The Bottom Line With “Classroom Management Made Easy”
… you will learn why students behave the way they do and what you need to do to help them become model students. Finally you will experience teaching as you thought it would be when you first started your career. You will be able to help the most troubled student and be able to deal with behavior problems before they begin. |
